I thought I start off my next post by explaining why I have such keen interest in this emerging and exciting field of Nutrigenomics or Nutrigenetics, depending on which definition you use.
You see, back in 2017, when I was working in my corporate role as a senior nutrition scientist in a MNC, I was tasked to work on a Personalised Nutrition project. That was considered one of my ‘nutrition-life-changing-moment’! Why so? Simply because I had the opportunity to spend copious amount of time reading up on this huge topic, filter out what is emerging and science-backed, synthesize the information into a few powerpoint slides and present to non-nutrition/non-scientific audience i.e. the marketers, the designers, the consultants etc. Such was the depth of knowledge that I gained that I view this area a great leap of advancement for nutrition. I was very passionate about this topic such that I am happy to discuss with anyone I see who is willing to listen. Well, this project did not have a happy ending and I am not going to further explain what happened. Let’s leave it as it is.
Fast forward to Oct 2019. I am thankful for being given the golden opportunity to be a speaker at the Singapore Prevention and Cardiac Rehabilitation Symposium 2019. Guess what, the topic that I was supposed to present was on Personalised Nutrition, specifically Nutrigenomics in Cardiac Rehabilitation. It was sheer pleasure for me to keep myself up-to-date once again, after a hiatus of 2 years.
Here are some photo snippets of my talk.
I actually did 2 talks – one a scientific presentation and the second being one of speakers for a 3-way debate that was so fun that I really enjoyed it a lot. Bantered and ‘argued’ with renown experts in the field of exercise and endocrinology. The scientific faculty for the symposium. Congrats for the huge success!
As I did so much scientific reading preparing for the talk, gradually I started asking myself whether I should take this further since I am so passionate about this. Things started falling into the right place since Oct and I find myself following my heart in starting up Pinnacle Nutrition by end 2019, with a focus on personalised nutrition/nutrigenomics to share my knowledge and expertise in this field to anyone who is keen to find out answers to those unanswered questions about your health, nutrition and fitness.
If you would like to find out more about what Nutrigenomics is all about, please click on the Consultations tab in the website. Enough said, drop me a line anytime and I am happy to discuss more!
